Sideoats Grama (Bouteloua curtipendula) is a warm-season, perennial bunchgrass native to the Rocky Mountains and Great Basin regions. Known for its distinctive oat-like seed spikes that dangle elegantly along one side of the stem, this grass provides year-round visual interest. Its fine-textured, blue-green foliage turns golden brown in the fall, adding seasonal color to native gardens and landscapes.
Highly drought-tolerant, sideoats grama thrives in dry, well-drained soils and is remarkably resilient in poor conditions. It grows 18 to 36 inches tall and forms dense clumps, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance landscapes. The grass provides habitat and forage for wildlife with its seeds attracting birds. Be warned - Deer love this grass
Its graceful seed heads and upright form create a striking contrast when paired with wildflowers or other native grasses, making it a beautiful and functional addition to water-wise landscapes.
