Fringed Sage (Artemisia frigida) is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial native to much of the West, prized for its soft, silvery foliage and ability to thrive in harsh, dry conditions. This low-growing woody subshrub features finely divided, aromatic leaves that add texture and contrast to prairies, rock gardens, and xeriscapes. It is evergreen in milder climates, providing winter interest. Prune in early spring to maintain an organized form, or left to its own devices this plant can spread and act as ground cover. Fringed Sage thrives in well-drained soils and pairs well with grasses and wildflowers in low-maintenance, water-wise landscapes.
