Littlecup Penstemon (Littlecup Penstemon) is a charming miniature native that rewards close inspection. Endemic to the Wasatch Mountains and particularly prevalent in Utah County, it creates delicate carpets of foliage dotted with soft lavender blooms that seem perfectly scaled for rock gardens, crevice plantings, and other intimate spaces. Its naturally compact growth makes it especially valuable where larger penstemons would overwhelm neighboring plants.
This species thrives in the lean, rocky soils it evolved in and asks for very little once established, making it an excellent choice for water-wise landscapes. Butterflies and native bees readily visit the flowers, while its tidy habit and exceptional drought tolerance allow it to fit beautifully into alpine gardens, xeriscapes, and small pockets between stones where many other perennials struggle.
