Mountain Hollyhock (Iliamna rivularis) sometimes known as Maple Mallow, is a bold, show-stopping, native perennial. It's quite tall and visually similar to traditional garden Hollyhocks. Large summertime flowers arrive in shades of soft pink to lavender, bringing a cottage-garden feel to mountain landscapes and easily drawing in bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Despite its delicate appearance, this is a rugged perennial well-suited to higher elevation gardens or lower elevations with some shade. It tolerates lean soils and requires only moderate water once established. Fast-growing and naturally resistant common plant diseases, it provides reliable height and color year after year. Whether planted as a specimen, in groupings, or at the back of a mixed border, Mountain Hollyhock adds both elegance and resilience to Intermountain gardens.
