Mountain Big Sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata ssp. vaseyana) is a tall, aromatic shrub native to higher-elevation in the western United States, where it commonly grows under snow cover during the winter months. Larger and more robust than the lower-elevation Wyoming Big Sagebrush, it typically reaches 4 to 7 feet tall. In addition to providing foundation and structure in a landscaped garden, its silvery-green leaves and small yellow flowers add texture and subtle color. This species thrives in well-drained soils and pairs well with native grasses and wildflowers.
