Sandberg Bluegrass (Poa secunda) is a hardy, cool-season perennial bunchgrass native to western North America, known for its early spring growth and exceptional drought tolerance. As one of the six most important rangeland grasses, this low-growing grass features fine, blue-green foliage and delicate seed heads that emerge in early spring, providing critical forage for wildlife before other grasses become available. Adaptable to a wide range of soils and conditions, it thrives in dry, sandy, or rocky soils. Sandberg Bluegrass is also valued for its erosion control properties and low water needs, making it a key species for xeriscaping, habitat restoration, and native prairie plantings.
