Silky Phacelia (Phacelia sericea) is one of the standout wildflowers of the Rocky Mountain high country, producing brilliant violet-blue flower spikes that appear in the summertime. The finely divided, silvery foliage gives the plant an almost soft, shimmering appearance throughout the growing season, making it attractive even when not in bloom. Its distinctive combination of silver foliage and intensely colored flowers makes it a favorite for native landscapes and naturalistic mountain gardens.
Once established, this species asks for very little beyond excellent drainage and plenty of sunshine. It excels in rock gardens, dry borders, and alpine plantings where many traditional perennials struggle. Its flowers are highly attractive to native bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, adding both ecological value and striking seasonal color to landscapes designed around western native plants.
