Sulphurflower Buckwheat (Eriogonum umbellatum) is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial native to the western US. Known for its vibrant clusters of creamy yellow flowers, it adds a splash of color to dry slopes, rocky outcrops, and native gardens. Blooming from late spring into summer, the flowers attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies.
This low-growing, mat-forming plant has small, leathery green leaves that often take on reddish hues in the fall, providing multi-season interest. Its compact size and adaptability make it an excellent choice for water-wise landscapes and rock gardens. Sulphurflower buckwheat thrives in well-drained, sandy, or rocky soils and is remarkably resilient to heat and drought once established.
