Wyoming Townsend Daisy (Townsendia florifer) is one of the gems of the Intermountain West, producing surprisingly large, colorful flowers on a plant that stays only a few inches tall. Its cheerful blooms seem to appear almost directly from the ground, creating a striking display among rocks, gravel, and other low-growing native plants. Because it naturally inhabits exposed mountain slopes and foothills, it thrives in challenging locations where many garden plants struggle.
This tiny native perennial is especially well-suited to rock gardens, alpine plantings, dry borders, and naturalistic landscapes. Once established, it requires very little attention and rewards gardeners with an early-season burst of color that attracts native bees and other pollinators. Its compact size makes it ideal for small spaces, crevices, and the front edges of water-wise gardens where its delicate flowers can be appreciated up close.
